Why convert MP3 to WAV?
Some software and hardware only accepts WAV. Samplers, DJ gear, older video editors and many DAW workflows work best with uncompressed audio, and CD burning software expects it too.
WAV is also a safer working format. If you edit an MP3 and save it as MP3 again, it is compressed a second time and loses a little more detail. Editing in WAV and exporting once at the end avoids that.
Does it improve the sound quality?
No. MP3 removes some audio detail when it is created, and converting to WAV cannot bring it back. The WAV file sounds the same as the MP3. It is just stored without compression, so it is about ten times larger.
If you have the original recording, CD, or a lossless file like FLAC, convert from that instead.
Which settings should I pick?
- Same as MP3 + 16-bit works for almost everything, so it is the default.
- 48 kHz is the standard for video. Pick it if the WAV is going into a video project.
- 44.1 kHz is the CD and music standard.
- 24-bit does not add quality to an MP3. Use it only if your editing software or project asks for 24-bit files.
Other ways to convert MP3 to WAV
Audacity (free desktop app): open the MP3, choose File → Export Audio, set the format to WAV (Microsoft) with Signed 16-bit PCM, and click Export.
ffmpeg (command line): run this in a terminal. Add -ar 44100 before the output name if you need 44.1 kHz.
ffmpeg -i song.mp3 song.wav
Both give the same WAV as this page. The converter above is quicker when you have a few files and nothing installed, and it also works on a phone.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you turn an MP3 into a WAV?
Yes. Choose your MP3 files above, click Convert to WAV, and download the result. It takes a few seconds per song.
Does converting MP3 to WAV lose quality?
No further quality is lost, but none is gained either. The WAV sounds exactly like the MP3 it came from. It is only stored without compression.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion happens in your browser on your own device. Your MP3 and WAV files are never sent to our servers.
Why is the WAV file so much bigger?
WAV is uncompressed. A 4 MB MP3 usually becomes a WAV of around 40 MB at 16-bit, and more at 24-bit or 48 kHz.
Is there a file size limit?
Each MP3 can be up to 90 minutes long on a computer and 20 minutes on a phone. The conversion uses your device's memory, so very long recordings can make the browser run out of space.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes, in current versions of Safari, Chrome, Firefox and Edge. On iPhone, downloaded WAV files are saved in the Files app under Downloads.
Is WAV better quality than MP3?
A WAV made from an MP3 sounds the same as that MP3. WAV is only better when it comes from the original recording or another lossless source, because then no detail was removed.
How do I convert MP3 to WAV in Audacity?
Open the MP3 in Audacity, choose File → Export Audio, set the format to WAV (Microsoft) with Signed 16-bit PCM, and click Export. This page does the same thing without installing anything.
